Willis S. Lande

Willis Severt Lande, age 89, of Menomonie, WI passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie. He was born Aug. 7, 1925 in Duncombe, Iowa to Willie and Emma (Valvick) Lande. At the age of 16 he moved to Knapp, WI where he farmed with his father until getting drafted into the U.S. Army. While in the service Willis served on the Honor Guard, during Harry S. Truman’s presidency. Upon the death of his father, Willis returned to Iowa and farmed the family farm. In 1957 he moved to Menomonie and bought the farm where he farmed until retiring. He also worked for Mathy Construction, driving heavy equipment. Willis is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen; his children, Gordon (Molly) Lande, Steven (Barb) Lande both of Menomonie and Donald (Catherine) Lande of Cottage Grove, MN; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister Ruth (Gary) Furman, a brother Joe (Nelwyn) Lande, sister-in-law, Glenny Lande; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom Lande; three sisters, Anna Mae (Bill) Setter, Delight (Orlan) Olson and Esther (Gordon) Heisa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church in Menomonie, with Pastor Geoff Scott officiating. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Halvorson Cemetery in Menomonie, with military honors by Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard. Olson Funeral Home of Menomonie is serving the family.
