RALPH J. WERNER Dr. Ralph J. Werner, age 82, of Menomonie, WI passed away Tuesday, January 04, 2005 surrounded by family. Dr. Werner was born on September 26, 1922 in Bloomer, WI to Jacob and Amelia (Jorns) Werner. A native of Bloomer, Dr. Werner graduated in 1945 from the University of Minnesota College of Dentistry. Dr. Werner married Bonna Yanser of Rochester, MN on Sept. 6, 1947 after serving a brief tour in the U.S. Navy. He and Bonna moved to Menomonie, WI where he joined the late Dr. C. F. Clark in the practice of Dentistry. In 1952, Dr. Werner was recalled by the Navy. Receiving his discharge two years later, he opened his own practice at the corner of Main and Broadway in Menomonie. While maintaining a private practice, Dr. Werner was a clinical professor of Operative Dentistry for 27 years at the University of Minnesota and 11 years at Northwestern University in Chicago. Dr. Werner logged an exceptional record as a leader in dental organizations. We was a co-founder of the Academy of Operative Dentistry in 1972 and Secretary/Treasurer from 1972 to 1988. He was President of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry Century Club, the Dental Alumni Society, the American Academy of Gold Foil Operators, the Minnesota Prosthodontic Society, and the Northwest District Dental Society of the Wisconsin Dental Association. He was elected as a fellow in the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, and the Midwest Academy of Prosthodontics, where he served on the Board of Directors. He was a member of the Minnesota Academy of Gnathological Research, the G.V. Black Dental Study Club, and the Managing Editor of the journal Operative Dentistry. Dr. Werner was Chairman of the Operative Dentistry section of the American Association of Dental Schools in 1976-1977. He was also a member of the American Academy of Resortative Dentistry and the Association of Dentistry International. Dr. Werner gave numerous table clinics, essays, and postgraduate courses. Dr. Werner, like his father Jacob, continue to play an important role in the Bloomer business community by serving on the Board of Directors at the Peoples State Bank for over 30 years. He was elected as their Chairman, serving from 1981 to 2004. Under his guidance, the Bank thrived as a strong financial institution for the area. Dr. Werner's interests were many and diverse. He was a member of the Masonic Temple and the Lions Club. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, snow and water skiing, boating on local lakes and rivers as well as Lake Superior. He was an avid reader of history and loved visiting historical sites. Dr. Werner is survived by: His wife of 57 years, Bonna 3 children Warren Werner of Madison Sarah (Jeff Becker) Werner of Denver, CO Mary (James) Winnefeld of Norfolk, VA 2 grandchildren, James and Jonathan Winnefeld of Norfolk, VA And other relatives and friends Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005 at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie, with Rev. Dave Whelan officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie. Family and friends may call at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Friday where there will be a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM.
