Phyllis M. Nelson Obituary (1934 - 2017)

Phyllis M. Nelson, age 82 of Knapp, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 24, 2017 with her loving family at her side. Phyllis Mae Gordon was born on June 19, 1934 in Menomonie to George and Adeline (Schaefer) Gordon. She grew up in the Iron Creek area and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1952. Phyllis married Darrel E. Nelson on April 12, 1956 by Rev. Ferch at the United Methodist Church parsonage in Menomonie. Together they raised their three children in Knapp, Wisconsin and continued to reside there ever since. Phyllis was a homemaker most of her life. Being a gifted cook, she later found happiness using that gift by working at the Knapp House for many years. Phyllis was a lifelong member of Knapp United Methodist Church. She was very active in the women’s group there, singing in the choir, and helping with the Bible School program. Phyllis always enjoyed preforming and singing with the “Senior Jammers”, bowling, fishing, camping and traveling with her bus tour trips. She was a creative woman who enjoyed crafting and truly spending time with her family and friends. Phyllis is survived by her loving husband Darrel of 61 years; three children; Kathy (Jeffrey) Stanton, Julie (Robert) Lee and Danny Nelson; ten grandchildren, Adam (Lindsay) Stanton, Lucas and Cody Stanton, Jordan and Trenton Lee, Afton (Michael) Roemhild, Nathan, Matthew, Christina, and Danielle Nelson; five great grandchildren; Cadence, Carter, Casen and Camden Lee and Logan Roemhild; one brother LaVerne (Alice Ann) Gordon. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2017 at Knapp United Methodist Church in Knapp, Wisconsin with Pastor Paul Foulke officiating. There will be visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be at Forrest Hill Cemetery in the Town of Stanton, Dunn Co. WI.
