“The Hills of Home have called me”… Mary Lou Whinnery passed away peacefully Thursday, July 30, 2015 with family at The Neighbors of Dunn County. Mary Lou was born March 15, 1928, in the town of Menomonie, Wis., to Ernest and Joyce (Thibado) Schmutz. She was preceded in death by her husband, of 55 years, Donald E. Whinnery. A devoted wife, mother, farmer and homemaker, Mary loved her family, friends, cats and birds. She was an avid letter writer, passionate cook, gifted artist working with John Russell Studios colorizing black and white photography, gardener, and musician. Mary Lou is survived by her beloved three daughters and two sons, Bonnie Hayes (Jim Holdren) of Ash Flat, AR, Donna (Mike Spath) Whinnery of Charlotte, NC, Debbie (John) Canty of Woodbine, MD, Jeff (Joy) Whinnery of Lindstrom, MN, and Lyle (Tami) Whinnery of Colfax; her grandchildren, Logan and Max Whinnery. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 2 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, with a visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in the town of Dunn. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Stepping Stones of Dunn County, 1620 Stout Rd, Menomonie, WI 54751.
