Marshall L. Quilling

Marshall Leonard Quilling, age 88, of Menomonie, WI passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 in Winter, WI. He was born Jan. 6, 1930 in the Town of Spring Brook, Dunn Co. WI to Leonard and Lillian (Lentz) Quilling. He attended Iron Creek Grade School and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1947. On June 27, 1953, Marshall married Josephine Bieringer at the United Brethren Methodist Church in Menomonie. In his younger years, Marshall was a 4-H member and was well renowned for showing registered cattle. He was a lifelong farmer, beginning on the Quilling family farm in the Town of Spring Brook. In 1958 he ventured on his own to the Rusk Prairie in the Town of Red Cedar to purchase his own farm. Marshall’s family was the Chamber Farm Family of the Year in 2008. Marshall was a 31-year member of the Menomonie School Board, serving as president for six years, and was an active member of Salem Iron Creek United Methodist Church. Marshall enjoyed spending time with his family and going to their family cabin in Northern Wisconsin. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he enjoyed attending a variety of sportsman’s banquets. He was also a jack-of-all trades and passed that knowledge on to his children. He was especially proud of his two patents. Marshall is survived by his children, Mary Ellen (Steve) Peterson of Wausau, Gregory Quilling of Middletown VA, Dale (Cindy) Quilling and Bruce (Sandy) Quilling both of Menomonie; grandchildren, Joshua (Elizabeth) Peterson of Seattle WA, Nicole (TJ) Rice of Eagan MN, Brooke (Chris) Bowen of Elmwood WI, Ashlee (Eric) Wisemiller of Colfax WI, Marcus (Amber) Quilling of Wilson WI, Andrew Quilling of Middletown VA, Katelyn (Jack) Quilling Miller of Austin MN and Grant Quilling of Menomonie; great-grandchildren, Adele and Emmett Peterson, Isabella, Eva and Oliver Rice, Beckett and Blair Bowen, Dane Wisemiller, Emmy and Cade Quilling; sisters, Margie Quilling and Betty (Maynard) Moe; brother-in-law George Churchill and sister-in-law JoAnne Quilling. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and his special four-legged companion Cody. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Josephine; brothers, Alvin (Marie) Quilling and Richard Quilling; sisters, Ruth Mueller, Mary (Bob) Trainer, twin sister Marlys Churchill; and daughter-in-law Laurel Quilling. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Salem Iron Creek United Methodist Church in the Town of Spring Brook, Dunn Co. WI with Pastor Allen Christensen officiating. There will be visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in Salem Iron Creek Cemetery. The family suggest memorials to Salem Iron Creek United Methodist Church or Shriners Children’s Hospital in the Twin Cities.
