Leonard’s journey to be reunited with his beloved “Ruby” was completed on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018 at the age of 102. He was born Dec. 29, 1915 to Charles and Gladys (Anderson) Owen on the family farm in Falls City, Town of Spring Brook, Dunn Co. WI. On June 6, 1936, Leonard married Ruby Schumacher at the courthouse in Stillwater, Minnesota. To this union three sons were born, Duane, Richard and Dennis. In 1942 they moved to St. Charles, Illinois to work at Howard Aircraft, building airplanes for the war effort. Mom was a “Rosie the Riveter” and dad was a welder. They moved back to Falls City in 1946 and bought a small farm. Leonard farmed that land and worked at Menomonie Farmers Union for over 30 years, until retiring as Feed Mill manager. A farmer he was born to be – a farmer he will forever be. Leonard is survived by a son Dennis (Judy) Owen; a sister Marcene Carlson; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby; sons, Duane and Richard; sisters, Myrtle, Ferne, Vera, Margery and Janice; brothers, Clare and Russell; and two grandchildren. As per Leonard’s request, no formal services are being held. Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to charity of donor’s choice.
