Jeanne Olson Obituary (1921 - 2005)

JEANNE L. OLSON Jeanne L. Olson, age 84, of Menomonie, WI died Friday, March 11, 2005 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie. The former Jeanne Lucille Shafer was born Feb. 20, 1921 in The Township of Dunn, Dunn County, WI to Archie and Grace (Kizer) Shafer. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Downsville. Jeanne attended Downsville grade school where her father was teacher at the time and later graduated from Menomonie High School in 1939. Jeanne married Richard D. Olson on Sept. 5, 1939 in Clinton, Iowa. They lived in Menomonie where Jeanne helped at Olson Funeral Home and raised their daughter while Richard served with the 15th Air Force during W.W.II. After his return she and her husband owned and operated Olson Funeral Home and Ambulance Service for many years. Jeanne was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Altar Guild, Order of the Eastern Star and various other organizations and she spent many hours working with the Girl Scouts. Jeanne was proud of obtaining a Pinch-Hitter Flying Certificate at a Flight Training Clinic in Decatur, IL in 1968. She and her husband enjoyed flying to many places across the country, camping trips to Lake of the Woods in Canada, trips to Alaska and winters in McAllen, TX. Jeanne also enjoyed bowling and playing cribbage. After Richard's death in 1976 Jeanne moved to Tantara Apartments where she lived until moving to the Dunn County Health Care Center in 2001. She enjoyed visiting with the dear friends who stopped at her apartment and at the health care center. Jeanne loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Jeanne is survived by: Her daughter, Kay Henry of Phoenix, AZ Her son, Richard K. (Karen) Olson of Colfax 5 grandchildren, H. Rick Henry of San Francisco, CA; Lisa (Bill) Kroska of Lakeville, MN; Richard A. Olson of Menomonie; Ryan (Lori) Olson of Menomonie Bethany Olson (fiance' Brady Schindler) of Menomonie 7 great-grandchildren Matthew and Nicole Kroska, Devany and Madison Olson, Lukas and Maya Olson and Brett Schindler 1 sister, Elaine (George) Gauvin of Spring Valley 2 brothers, Vaughn (Irene) Shafer of Hungry Horse, MT; Jerry (Jane) Shafer of Menomonie 2 sisters-in-law, Laura Shafer of Pontiac, MI and Eila Renz of Menomonie Nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; a brother, Darrell Shafer; a son-in-law, Hugh (Pat) Henry and 2 nieces, Donna Kado and Rita Shafer. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Menomonie, with Rev. Ron Burke and Rev. Bob Friese officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie. Family and friends may call at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Monday and at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. The family suggests memorials to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the American Lung Association or charity of donor's choice.
