Irvin Mattison Obituary (1923 - 2014)

Irvin H. Mattison, age 91, of Menomonie passed away on Friday, August 15, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Menomonie. Irvin Harold Mattison was born on August 1, 1923 in the Town of Lucas, Dunn County, Wisconsin to Phillip and Ragna (Wold) Mattison. Irvin graduated from Menomonie High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served for four years as an MP during WWII. He married Bettyanne Siler on December 11, 1946 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Menomonie. Irvin worked for Uniroyal Tire in Eau Claire for 33 years. He was also very proud of the fact that he worked with four generations of Olson's at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie. Irvin enjoyed playing horseshoes and was instrumental in forming the Badger Horseshoe League. He was a member of the American Legion Post 32 and VFW Post 1039. He also loved walking his dogs (American Eskimos), watching and feeding the birds, but most of all spending time with his family. Irvin is survived by his wife Bettyanne of 68 years, 3 children, Lynne (Craig) Koser, Julianne (Gordon)Smith, Mark (Pam) Mattison; 5 grandchildren, Chad and Calli Schutts, Bridt (Chelsalyn) Smith, Calsey Bea Smith, LeChaun Mattison (Fiancé Jamie Boerner); 2 step grandchildren, Chastity and Courtney Pomasl; 4 great grandchildren, Channer, Brennah, Marissa Schutts, Kamdyn Boerner and one sister Marion Wyss. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 infant brothers Clifford and Lyle, one grandson Jamie Smith and son-in-law Jerry Schutts. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church in Menomonie with Pastor Geoff Scott officiating. Burial will be at Christ Halvorson Cemetery with military honors by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
