Helmuth "Pookie" Albrecht Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Helmuth “Pookie” Albrecht, 78, of Menomonie, Wisconsin, died Friday September 25, 2015 at Comforts of Home in Menomonie. Pookie was born July 16, 1937 in Illinois to John & Hanne (Christiansen) Albrecht. He grew up in Winthrop Harbor / Zion, Illinois where he graduated from high school. Pookie got a B.S. degree from Stout State College, Menomonie in 1959. He was a veteran of the National Guard. Helmuth married Donna Johnson June 10, 1967. Both worked at University of Wisconsin-Stout for over 40 years. Pookie administrated a variety of student services over the years. They lived on a farm raising two children, crops and Arabian horses. Pookie’s idea of fun/vacation was working on the farm. After retirement Pookie managed All Season Sports Center in Holcombe, Wisconsin for 7 years. Hunting deer, elk and moose in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado and Canada were Pookie’s loves. Dunn County Fish & Game Association members and activities kept him involved and energized. He is survived by wife, Donna, son Jeremiah (Janelle) and daughter Lillena (Bryan) Miller, also survived by grandchildren Drew, Derek and Avery Albrecht and Jazmyn and Levi Joy Miller and nieces: Carole Jean, Norma and Kris as well as other relatives and friends. Pookie was preceded in death by his parents John & Hanne; and brothers--Hans, Helmut, William and John. There will be visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday Sept. 27, 2015 at Olson Funeral Home, Menomonie and one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday September 28 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Menomonie with Pastor Heather Wigdahl officiating. There will be a luncheon served immediately following the service. Burial will be at a later date in Birchwood Cemetery in Pine City, Minnesota.
