HAROLD PELLER Harold Peller Esq, age 88, recently of New York, NY passed away Thursday Oct. 7, 2004 in Menomonie at the home of his daughter, Barbara Peller Sommers and his son-in-law, David W. Sommers Harold was born in New York in 1916, the son of Solomon and Carrie (Blumenkranz) Peller. He graduated from high school in Brooklyn in 1933 and went on to receive his undergraduate degree from Columbia University in New York in 1937 and his Juris Doctorate from St. John's University in New York in 1940. At St. John's, Harold was the Editor-in-chief of the law review as well as the humor editor for the university newspaper. After graduating with his law degree, Harold married his wife, Frieda Ebert, who later was noted municipal judge in New York. They had three children, Paul, Barbara and Lorraine. Shortly after their marriage, Harold joined the army and was trained as a linguist and a medical corpsman. During World War II, he served in the European theater of action as a lieutenant leading troops in Germany, most notably at the Battle of the Bulge. For his service, he received the Purple Heart as well as other distinguished decorations. When he returned to the United States he practiced law as a trial attorney, traveling widely, representing clients in the areas of fraud and corporate law. He never retired and continued his practice till the end. In addition to the law, Harold also owned and operated restaurants and hotels in New York. In his free time he enjoyed reading, poetry, gardening and reminiscing, and will be especially remembered for his gracious affability. Sommers of Menomonie, WI Lorraine Peller (David Williams) of New Orleans, LA His grandchildren Ben Rama Peller of Los Angeles, CA Jordana Cathryn Williams of New Orleans, LA A sister, Muriel Peller of Atlantic Beach, NY He was preceded in death by his parents, Solomon and Carrie Peller and his wife, Frieda (Ebert) Peller. Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, with Rev. Bob Salt officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie, with Military Honors by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard.
