Garlen "Gar" Lemler Obituary (1917 - 2013)

Garlen F. Lemler, age 96 of Menomonie, WI died Friday, June 14, 2013 at The Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie. Gar grew up in the Colfax/Menomonie area and was a graduate of Colfax High School. On January 14, 1944, he married Betty Harmon in Boyceville, WI. For thirty-five years, Gar farmed for the Dunn County Health Care Center, providing them with food for the table. For forty years, he was the "caretaker" for the Menomonie Moose Lodge. If something needed to be fixed or made; Gar would do it immediately and without much cost to the Lodge. He also had a "following" of cats, deer, birds and other small animals around the Lodge, as he loved to share his meals with them. He enjoyed the outdoors and all of God's creatures. Gar and Betty used to love to go dancing and he bowled for seventy years, finally giving it up at age 94. He always had a good story to tell and had a smile on his face. He routinely would make his "meal stops" around town and they would bring him his traditional order. Gar is survived by one sister, Irene Hardy of Menomonie; nephews, Jeff, Phil and Mike Hardy; as well as grand and great grand nephews and nieces; A special friend, Nelva Bandelow of Menomonie; other relatives and many, many friends. For many years Gar and Betty took care of his ailing parents, Fay and Hattie (Erickson) Lemler, until their deaths. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Betty (1992); and one brother, Wesley. A Celebration Of Life with An Order Of The Moose Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at The Moose Lodge in Menomonie. Visitation will take place at the Moose Lodge from 5:00 p.m. until time of service. Olson Funeral Home of Menomonie is serving the family.
