Frederick W. Alf, Jr. Obituary (1932 - 2013)

Frederick W. Alf Jr. Frederick W. Alf, 81, of Menomonie, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the American Lutheran Home of Menomonie under the care of Hospice. Fred was born January 3, 1932 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to Frederick W. (Bill) and Alice (Crooker) Alf. Fred served proudly in the United States Army in Korea. He married Phyllis Donnelly May 28, 1955. They had three children, Melody, David and Gary. Fred worked for the Dunn County Highway Department for 34 years and he knew all the jokes about county workers. Along with his father and brothers, Fred helped operate the Caryville ferry for 14 years before the Highway H bridge was built across the Chippewa River. He is survived by his wife Phyllis, daughter Melody (Gary) Gossett, son David (Kristine); three grandsons, Sean, Schuyler and Justin Alf, and one granddaughter, Jessie Alf, and two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Jake; three brothers, James (Karen), Rodney (Judy), and Arthur (Susan) Alf. Fred was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Gary Alf. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Forest Center Church of the Nazarene, Twp. Spring Brook, Dunn Co. WI with Pastor Cliff Larrabee officiating. Burial will take place in Forest Center Cemetery, Twp. Spring Brook, Dunn Co. WI, with military honors by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church. Olson Funeral Home of Menomonie is serving the family.
