Evelyn Ruth Hofland Obituary (1924 - 2016)

Evelyn Ruth Hofland, 91, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at The Neighbors of Dunn County in Menomonie. Evelyn was born on August 26, 1924 in the Town of Lucas to Earl and Ella (Schroeder) Coyer at home, attended by a midwife. She attended Miller Hill Country School for 8 years, The Two Year Knapp High School for 2 years, Dunn County Agriculture School for 1 year, and graduated from Downing High School in 1941, at the age of 16. After graduation, she attended Dunn County Normal School. Evelyn was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church and later became a member for 59 years at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, both in Menomonie. In 2011, she became a member of the New Life Lutheran Church, also in Menomonie. On August 26, 1943, Evelyn married Paul Hofland at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Menomonie, where Paul and his family were long-time members. Evelyn assisted Paul in their large dairy and beef farm operation in the Town of Menomonie. She also had a keen eye regarding personnel and real estate matters, which was of great assistance and support in their operation. She was devoted to her family, enjoyed gardening, reading, her dogs, quilting with her church group, Bible Study and teaching Sunday school. Evelyn is survived by her four children, Allan (Ruth) Hofland, Eau Claire; Gail Johnson, Menomonie; Brian (Carla) Hofland, West Harrison, NY; Laura (Daniel) Loonstra, Menomonie; four grandchildren, MariRuth (Jamie) Guibord, Eau Claire; Michael (Andrea) Hofland, River Falls; Andrew Hofland and Celeste Hofland, West Harrison, NY; four great grandsons, Jacob, Brady and Levi Guibord, Eau Claire; Alexander Hofland, River Falls, one sister-in-law, Frieda Coyer and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul in 1995; her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Marvin Hammond; brother, Lawrence Coyer; brother Herbert Coyer and his wife, Edith; brother, Glenn Coyer and his wife, Thelma; and son-in-law, Kenneth Johnson. Evelyn sincerely believed that those we Love, don’t go away, they walk beside us, every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, still Loved, still Missed and very dear. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016 at New Life Church in Menomonie, 620 24th Ave West (Oak Ridge Lutheran Brethren Church) with Pastor Roy Harrisville III officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Ford Cemetery, Town of Menomonie, Dunn County. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to New Life Church, Dunn County Humane Society or Dunn County Historical Society.
