ERMA K. QUILLING Erma K. Quilling, age 88, of Menomonie, WI passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003 at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home in Elmwood, WI. The former Erma Katherine Sundby was born Oct. 31, 1915 in the Town of Lucas, Dunn Co., WI to Caleb and Alta (Forster) Sundby. She attended Palmer Grade School, Dunn County Aggie and Dunn County Normal where she earned a teaching degree. She taught for four years at Blodgett Grade School. Some of her proudest moments were when former students would come up to her telling her what a wonderful teacher she had been. Erma married Marvin J. Quilling June 15, 1940 in the Town of Lucas. She and Marvin had three children, Jerome, Carol and Wayne. They took over the family farm, living and working there until 1973 when Wayne and his wife were married. Still Erma would help in any way possible on the farm. Erma was very involved in several organizations. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Menomonie where she served for many years as a Circle Chairman. Her church and faith were very important to her. Erma was also involved for over 46 years in Dunn County Farm Bureau. She served as Women's Chair for a good share of those years. In 2002 she was honored as Farm Bureau Member of the Year by the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation. An award that she justly deserved. She made many friends through Farm Bureau whether it was working at the eat stand, helping with dairy breakfasts or participating in the many Farm Bureau activities. The Dunn County Historical Society was another of her interests where she served on the Board. She was involved in getting the Museum on Wilson Avenue up and running. Again she made friendships that would last throughout her lifetime. Erma is survived by: Two sons and 1 daughter all of Menomonie Jerome Quilling Wayne (Nancy) Quilling Carol (John) Bakke Four very special grandchildren, Jill Quilling, Scott (Katye) Quilling, Amy Quilling and Michael Quilling (Heather Webb, a special friend) And many other relatives and friends She was preceded in death by her parents, Caleb and Alta Sundby; her husband, Marvin; two sisters, Esther Holzhueter and Olive Peterson Frieberger; and a brother Willis Sundby. Erma will be greatly missed by her family and friends as she devoted her life to them. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at the United Methodist Church in Menomonie, with Rev. Marilynn Rushton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie. Family and friends may call at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday and at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
