Edith M. Larson Obituary (1917 - 2010)

EDITH M. LARSON Edith M. Larson, age 93, passed away on September 9, 2010 at Our House Assisted Living. A long-term resident of Menomonie, Edith was very active in her church and in caring for her family. Edith is survived by her children Gary (Carol) Larson, Karen (Michael) Williams, Steven (Candace) Larson, and Anne Schleusner. She had 8 grandchildren; Nathan Williams, Noah (Missy) Williams, Eve Williams; Kallie (Gene) Schabert, Luke Schleusner, Tony, Stephanie, and Stuart Larson. There are 6 great grandchildren; Jack and Sam Williams, (Nathan), Noah and Nancy Williams (Noah), Emma and Tommy Schabert, (Kallie). Edith is also survived by her brother Jack (Ruth) Olson, sister Jean (Alton) Roemhild, brother in law George (Ellie) Larson and many nieces and nephews Of necessity and bravery Edith left home after 8th grade and sought employment in Menomonie. Over her life she worked serving Menomonie residents in food service, dental offices and the hospital. As many World War two brides the early-married years were interrupted by the war. Edith and Louie married on June 20, 1940. They moved to California where they lived until Louie joined the Navy. Edith traveled back to Menomonie alone and returned to join Louie with their first-born Gary. After the war the young family returned to Menomonie, and raised their family of four children. Edith was the consummate family hostess. She made sure everyone was well fed with great lefse and her homemade potato salad. The family was always trying to get Edith to stop waiting on them and sit and eat. Her children and grandchildren were all recipients' of her prolific and excellent sewing. Especially the sock monkeys! Edith's children often quote their Mother telling the rambunctious children, "I may be little but I'm mighty fierce." Throughout Edith's life she served her church through circle work first at Our Savior's Lutheran and in later years at Christ Lutheran. She especially enjoyed the quilt making and sewing. The family and all who knew her will mourn the loss of a loving and caring family member and loyal friend. Edith was preceded in death by her husband Louis, her mother and father Martin and Kathryn Olson, her siblings Sylvia Ranney, Martial Olson, Coral McIntyre, Elda Nilssen and son-in-law Tom Schleusner. Visitation will be on Monday, September 20, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Olson Funeral Home, 615 Wilson Ave, Menomonie, WI. Funeral services for Edith will be at Olson Funeral on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Geoff Scott officiating. Burial will be in Tramway Cemetery in the Town of Menomonie, Dunn Co., WI.
