Dorothy E. Ashley Obituary Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dorothy E. Ashley, age 90, of Menomonie, WI passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at The Neighbors of Dunn County in Menomonie. The former Dorothy Elizabeth Sand was born August 26, 1923 in the Town of Lucas, Dunn Co. WI to William and Hazel (Claflin) Sand. Following her mother's death, Dorothy played an active roll in raising her brothers and sisters, especially caring for her three younger brothers with Muscular Dystrophy. Dorothy married Milton Boerner Feb. 23, 1943, and to this union one daughter, Elizabeth "Jo" was born. Dorothy owned and operated the Modern Beauty Salon in Menomonie for many years. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and enjoyed camping, fishing and playing cards. After Milton's death, Dorothy later married Chester Ashley in April of 1974. They moved to Chippewa Falls and resided there until returning to Menomonie in 1994, shortly before Chet's passing. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth "Jo" (Lynn) Stewart; two granddaughters, Lynda (Tim) DeAtley and Lisa (Richard) Merrell; four great-grandchildren, Nathan, Andrea, Joshua and Jordan; three brothers, Robert (Lillian) Sand, Archie (Carol) Sand and Frank (Karen) Sand; four step-children, Karen (Frank) Sand, Kenneth (Sharon) Ashley, Jeanne (Nick) Pund and Roger (Mary Ann) Ashley. She is also survived by several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Milton Boerner and second husband, Chester Ashley; and infant daughter; brothers, William, Ronald and Charles Sand; and one sister, Mary Lou Robertson. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie with Pastor Brett Voigt officiating. There will be visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Tramway Cemetery in the Town of Menomonie, Dunn Co. WI. In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Tramway Cemetery or charity of donor's choice.
