Delores J. Edwards Obituary (1932 - 2020)

Delores Jean (Skowen) Edwards, age 88 of Menomonie, WI passed away of kidney and heart failure on Friday, August 21, 2020 at her daughter’s home surrounded by family. Delores was born February 24, 1932 in Iola, WI to Harmon and Edna (Hotvedt) Skowen. She graduated from PJ Jacobs High School in Stevens Point, WI and later attended WI State Teacher’s College (UW-Stevens Point). Delores married Bill Edwards, Sr., son of Russell and Margaret (Laughlin) Edwards on April 4, 1950. Together they raised 4 children and enjoyed 64 years of marriage until Bill’s death in 2011. Prior to her retirement, she and Bill owned and operated Tainter Lake Bait and Gun Shop for 22 years and prior to that The Sport Shop in Menomonie. Delores held her Lutheran faith and her family at the center of her life. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends and always felt the time spent went by too fast. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor and quirky comments. There was always laughter when she was around. Delores is survived by daughters Cyndi of Elk Mound and Judi of Menomonie, son Bill Jr. (Diane) of Menomonie; 9 grandchildren Jason (Jen), Staci, Jen (Ryan), Kariann, Scott (Kelly), Kara, Corbin, Danielle (Andrew) and Aaron; 15 great-grandchildren Alec, Ashton, Jaden, Rilan, Josh, Jevin, Cameron, Bella, Aerilyn, Jaxon, Liam, Mila, Ariah, Everett and Jarrett; she is further survived by 3 nieces Heidi, Peggy and Anne; one nephew Greg and the family’s adopted son Jim. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, son John and her sister Sandy. Following a private Celebration of Life, Delores will be laid to rest beside her husband at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI. The family would like to thank Dr. Carrie Nelson, Joanne Brinkman, and Janet Simonson for the care and friendship they offered Delores through the years. Also, a special thank you to Mayo Clinic Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Delores in her final days.
