Arthur D. Dana Obituary (1931 - 2017)

Arthur Delbert Dana, age 85, of Menomonie, WI passed away Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017 at The Neighbors of Dunn County, after a long battle with diabetes. Art, son of Arthur J. and Emma M. (Grounow) Dana was born Sept. 24, 1931 in Woodstock, IL. A year after graduating from Woodstock Community High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Art served in Korea as an intelligence communications specialist, relaying and interpreting Morse Code messages from the front lines. He earned the rank of Corporal before his discharge in 1953. On June 23, 1956 Art married Florence Fournier in Fitchburg, MA and had three children: Craig, Diane and Jeanie. When not at work as a machinist, Art enjoyed playing golf, nickel slots in casinos, and cribbage. Art and Flo moved to Menomonie, WI in 1988. Art was a member of VFW Post 1039 in Menomonie. Art is survived by his wife, Florence, and daughters Diane Swihart (Bill Moran) of Baldwinville, MA and Jeanie Koula (Thomas) of Cabot, AR. He is also survived by his sister Hannah Dana of Arbor Vitae, WI, five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Dana, sister Dona Borchert, and son Craig Dana. Art will be remembered for his sense of humor and for being the ideal patient during his many stays in the hospital and in the Neighbors of Dunn County nursing home. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie, with Father James Kurzynski officiating. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Art’s cremated remains will be buried in Fitchburg, MA on a date not yet determined. Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie is serving the family. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at The Neighbors of Dunn County and Mayo Clinic Dialysis Center in Menomonie for the exceptional care given to Art. He considered The Neighbors as his second home and appreciated their kindness.
