Willard G. Maves Obituary (1917 - 2006)

WILLARD G. "BUCK" MAVES Willard George "Buck" Maves, age 88, of Menomonie, WI died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006 at Red Cedar Medical Center-Mayo Health System in Menomonie. He was born on Aug. 20, 1917 in the Town of Spring Brook, Dunn County, Wisconsin to Max and Ida (Schaefer) Maves. Buck was raised in the Town of Spring Brook, near Fall City, and baptized and confirmed at Iron Creek United Methodist Church. He graduated from Elk Mound High School. Buck worked as an electrician for a few years before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corp on Jan. 9, 1942. He served on the west coast until his discharge on Dec. 2, 1945. Following his military service Buck was employed at U.S. Rubber Co. (Uniroyal) in Eau Claire for many years, until his retirement in 1980. Buck was a member of American Legion Post #32 in Menomonie and the Elks Lodge of Pendleton, OR. His passion in life was gardening, fishing and visiting with all his friends and neighbors. Buck is survived by: His companion for over fifty years, Marion Brunn of Menomonie A sister-in-law, Carolyn Maves of Menomonie Nieces and nephews, Arvid (Arliss) Larson of Manistique, MI Jerry (Judy) Schrantz of Waukesha Tim (Lisa) Maves of Menomonie Tony (Lynn) Maves of Ames, IA Joan (Mike) Weier of Elk River, MN David (Irma Jean) Maves of Menomonie Jean Rzepiejewski of Burnsville, MN 27 grand nieces and grand nephews Many great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Verne and Irvin Maves; three sisters, Irene Larson, Stella Schrantz and Lorraine Crane; and a nephew John Larson. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006 at Iron Creek United Methodist Church in the Town of Spring Brook with Rev. Margaret DeMaris officiating. Burial will be in Iron Creek Cemetery with Military Honors by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
