Wilbur Hake Obituary (1916 - 2010) - Menomonie, Wisconsin

WILBUR L. HAKE Wilbur L. Hake, age 93, of Menomonie, WI went to his heavenly home on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010. Wilbur was born in Platteville, WI on Nov. 3, 1916 to the late Ira Hake and Zelma (Cannon) Hake. They moved to the Little Elk Creek area early in his life where his father farmed. Wilbur spent time working in the CC Camps. He was a lightweight boxer while in the camps and spoke of it often usually accompanied by a demonstration. Jobs were scarce you had to go where the work was. He settled in a job with Dunn County Electric Cooperative, REA. Wilbur took great pride in the work he did there. He retired when he was 70 years old. Wilbur also served on the Menomonie Credit Union Board of Directors for several years and was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and always had a number of stories to go with each. Wilbur married Hazel I. Welch. They had five children: James (Holly) Hake and Greg (Jan) Hake both of San Diego, CA. Bonnie Hake, Tom Hake and Mary (Terry) Miland all of Menomonie. And eight grandchildren: Ron Hake, Dawn Brandt, Jeni Watson, Derek Miland, Nicole Hake, Matt Hake and Allyssa Hake. The great-grandchildren: he referred to as "Pootsies", Madeline Hake, Curtis Hake, Lily Hake, Justin Brandt, Kyle Brandt, Gabbi Brandt, Abbi Watson, Ben Watson, Addy Miland and Aleaha Miland. Wilbur is also survived by his very special friend Betty Gesche. Two sisters, Betty Moldenhauer and Lois (Bob) Clarke, one brother Loren (Carol) Hake and many nieces and nephews. Wilbur was preceded in death by his wife Hazel Hake, his grandson Shad Miland, and three brothers, Oral Hake, Lyle Hake and Ralph Hake. Our family would like to thank the staff at Dunn County Health Care Center, you took very good care of our father. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie with Pastor David Whelan officiating. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery.
