Verlon R. Wold Obituary (1922 - 2010)

Verlon Roy Wold "Blondie", age 88, of Menomonie, WI passed away Monday Dec. 20, 2010 at the American Lutheran Home, surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 7, 1922 in Prairie Farm, WI to Henry and Lena (Olson) Wold. Verlon attended several different grade schools and moved with his family to Menomonie in 1934, where he graduated from Menomonie High School in June of 1942. On June 4, 1947 Verlon married Doris E. Lewis, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Menomonie. They celebrated 63 years of marriage in June of 2010. Verlon worked for farmer Harvey Rudiger, Quilling Dairy and Roberts Wholesale Company, later known as Farmhouse Food Grocery Co. in Eau Claire for 39 years, retiring in January of 1986. He enjoyed being with friends at coffee every morning and afternoon at the Kernel and the Saturday mystery trips with special friends Les Johnson and Jack Kothlow. He also enjoyed watching the squirrels and birds and he loved trout fishing when he was able. Verlon followed all of his grandchildren's athletic events, including basketball, baseball and hockey and he was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He enjoyed being "Papa" to his two great-granddaughters whom he adored very much. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Verlon is survived by: His wife Doris of Menomonie Two daughters, Vicki (Jack) Tritt of Menomonie Jean (Steve) Herrem of Hudson Four much loved grandchildren; granddaughter Michele (Joe) Dickhausen of Baldwin, three grandsons, Michael Herrem of Hudson, Christopher Tritt of Menomonie and Cory Tritt of Carson City, NV Two great-granddaughters, Madison and Sophie Dickhausen of Baldwin Sisters-in-law, Maxine Wold, Donna (Sam) Gibson, Judy Lewis and Annie Lewis; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Loren and Howard, and sisters, Helen, Joyce and Carol. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Menomonie, with Father Tom Krieg officiating. Honorary casket bearers include: Joe Dickhausen, Michele Dickhausen, Michael Herrem, Chris Tritt, and Cory Tritt. Casket bearers include: Don Eiseth, Daniel Gibson, Ron Larson, Randy Lewis, Chris Tritt, and Ken Wold. Burial will be in St. Joseph' s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
