Velma N. Schutz Obituary (1917 - 2008)

VELMA N. SCHUTZ Velma N. (Grimme) Schutz, age 90, of Menomonie, WI died Monday, January 14th , 2008 at Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire. Velma was born October 30th 1917 in Menomonie, WI to William and Anna (Brown) Grimme. Velma enjoyed 89 very healthy years before learning of her advanced breast cancer just one year ago. In 1943, Velma married Dan F. Schutz and they were together for 57 years before Dan lost his life to Alzheimer's. To know Velma was to know her love and devotion for all things living. From her garden to her great grandchildren, and to the caring of her husband, she poured out love and will be missed by all who knew her. Velma was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie and prior to that was equally devoted to Luther Memorial Church in Madison. Since the 1970's Velma was an active member of PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) through which she was blessed with many enduring friendships. She is survived by sisters Jerene Price and Bernetta Schutz both of Menomonie, sons Greg (Nancy) of Racine, David (Sue) of Madison and John (Deborah) of Santa Barbara, CA and daughters Kay Pelzek of Milwaukee and Wendy (Gus) Gustofson of Menomonie, former daughter-in-law Julie Schutz of Madison, grandchildren Sarah and Katie Schutz, Davey, Andy and Richelle Schutz, Josh and Danny Pelzek, Ashley and Brittany Schutz and Daniel Ole Gustofson. Great grandchildren include Lydia, Grace, Jonathon and Eva Schutz, and Tyler and Caleb Pelzek. Velma was preceded in death by her husband Dan, sisters Adeline Martin, and ReEtta Hart, and son Bobby. The family would like to thank Syverson Lutheran Home and Dr. Sandeep Basu for their tender care. Memorials can be made to Breast Cancer Research, or Mom's favorite charitable organization, Heifer International. Memorial services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie at 11:00am Friday Jan. 18, 2008 with Pastor David Whelan officiating.. Family and friends are welcome at the church from 10:00am until the time of the service. Spring burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery.
