Thomas L. Manor Obituary (1933 - 2010)

Thomas L. "Tom" Manor, age 76, of Menomonie, WI died Friday, January 22, 2010 at his home. He was born June 17, 1933 in Milwaukee, WI to Lydel and Maude (Sumter) Manor. Thomas moved to Menomonie, WI in 1945 where he attended school and lived until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Beulah "Bea" Manor. Thomas and Beulah were married at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie on March 20, 1954. Thomas attended Menomonie High School and gained a reputation as one of the great football players of the 1950 era. Thomas joined the Marine Corps January 7, 1952. He retired as a highly decorated Marine, serving in both Korea and Vietnam wars; receiving four Purple Hearts, five Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, for his brave service to his country. Thomas also retired from Stout State University and was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church. Thomas is survived by his son Al (Valerie) Manor of Arizona, daughter Lori Rohde(Rick Smith) of Menomonie, grandchildren Kyle, Casey and Krysta Rohde of Ohio; Rebekah (Ed) Shaw of Utah and Thomas (Shana) Manor of Arizona. Four great-grandchildren Zoe, Berlin and Adison Manor and Rylee Shaw. Sister, brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Anita Kreaser, Peggy Lauer, Phyllis Herbeck, Jim (Carol) Manor, Dorothy (George) Collins, Arlene (George) Mifko. Also many nieces and nephews and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his father Lydel Manor, mother Maude (Sumter) Manor, sisters, brother and in-laws Bill (Irene) Manor, Jerry (Frank) Richter, Joyce Bednar, Gene (Eddie) Kreaser, Roman Kreaser, Robert Lauer and Jack Herbeck. He was also preceded in death by the ones who didn't make it back from serving their country. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, with visitation at the funeral home from 12:00 (noon) until the time of the service. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in the Twp. Dunn, Dunn Co., WI with military honors by Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard.
