Thomas L. Klopp Obituary (1939 - 2010)

Larry Klopp Thomas Larry Klopp, 71, of Menomonie, peacefully went home to the Lord on Sunday, September 5, 2010. Larry was born March 31, 1939, in Eau Claire the son of Milo and Helma (Ouim) Klopp. He attended Bennett Valley Schools and graduated from Central High School Eleva-Strum in 1957. In high school he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball and was elected both Homecoming and Prom King. Larry was very well liked by everyone. The caption under his yearbook photo said it all; " a quiet guy, but quite a guy". After High School, he worked at American Motors Corporation in Kenosha, WI. On August 5, 1961 he married Gladys Hoover at Rock Creek Lutheran Church in Rock Falls, WI. He attended Stout State University graduating in 1968 with a B.A. degree in Industrial Arts. He taught at Wausau High School. He returned to Menomonie and earned a Masters Degree in Guidance in 1971. He was a guidance counselor and wrestling coach in Ithica, WI for one year. He then returned to Menomonie and was the guidance counselor at Boyceville High School for 25 years, retiring in 1995. Larry was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Menomonie. He served as usher, greeter, and taught confirmation class. He also enjoyed camping, golfing, watching Packer and Brewer games, and spending time with his grandchildren. He took great pride in his grandchildren's achievements and accomplishments in academics and sports. Come rain or shine, they could always count on "Pa-Pa" being there. Besides his wife of 49 years, Gladys, Larry is survived by son Todd (Brenda) of Yuma, CO; daughter Tammi (Rob) Cassidy of Clinton, IA; son Eric (Ingrid) of Albany, CA; and son Shane of Littleton, CO; seven grandchildren, Cody, Bret, and Alex Klopp; Kristin, Ryan and Keegan Cassidy; and Amanda Klopp; sister Delores (Gerald) Repaal of Colfax; sister Muriel (Russell) Pritchett of Illinois; brother Donald (Margaret) Klopp of Racine and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a stillborn son, Thomas Larry Klopp Jr.; his parents; and sister Marjorie Gilbert and brother-in-law Howard Gilbert, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Menomonie on Thursday, September 9 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Geoff Scott will be officiating. Friends my call Wednesday, September 8 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Olson Funeral Home, 615 Wilson Ave. Menomonie. I'm sure Larry is now golfing with the angels in Heaven, sure hope he gets a hole in one.
