Milton Hughes Obituary (1932 - 2011)

Milton W. Hughes, age 78, of Menomonie, WI passed away Sunday, August 7, 2011 at Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie. Milton was born on September 25, 1932 in Menomonie, Wisconsin, the son of Robert William Hughes and Evelyn (Petrie) Hughes. Evelyn died at the age of 34 when Milton was two years of age. Robert married Ada Hammond in 1937 who was step-mother to Milton and his two older siblings: Robert Alton Hughes and Dorothy Evelyn Hughes Phillipps. He was raised on the family farm at Knapp on County Road Q and attended Miller Hill Grade School and Dunn County School of Agriculture. Milton married Mary Lou Schutts from Knapp in 1958, where they operated a dairy farm; they later divorced. Milton drove over-the-road semi, hauled mik, and picked up/delivered milk samples. He was a great mechanic, fixing farm machinery and his and others' vehicles as well. Whichever vehicle he owned last was his "favorite." Milton is survived by his children; Thomas (Chris) Hughes of Amery, WI Loriane "Lori" (Gary) Bowell of Clayton, WI James (Suzanne) Hughes of Wheaton, IL Brothers; Robert (Flossie) Hughes, Howard (Nancy) Hughes both of Knapp, WI Sisters; Myrna (Merle) Brantmeier of Durand, WI Deanna (Vernon) Jenson of Robbinsdale, MN Grandchildren; Eric, Jenny, Jodi, Jamie, Justin and Cain Step-grandchildren; Kristin, Shannon, Pamela, Brandon, Tommy and Justin 4 great-grandchildren, 6 step great-grandchildren As well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends Milton was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dorothy, brother-in-law Robert LeRoy Phillipps, sister-in-law Sharon Foss Hughes, grandchildren Jason, Jesse and Laken. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2011 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie with Pastor Bruce Gardow officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Knapp. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Knapp Community Hall for lunch following the burial. Memorials if desired may be made in Milton's name to the Knapp Community Hall New Kitchen Fund.
