Mathias P. Goodman Obituary (1917 - 2007)

Mathais "Matt" P. Goodman Mathais "Matt" P. Goodman, age 90, of Knapp, WI, died of congestive heart failure on Tuesday October 9, 2007 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie. Mathais Peter Goodman was born September 5, 1917 in Drywood, WI to Charles and Genevieve (McConville) Goodman. Matt married Edna Bell on August 12, 1939 in Chippewa Falls. Together they farmed in Drywood and Matt also hauled milk and worked as a road patrolman. After leaving the farm, they moved to Bruce, WI where Matt owned a Dry Cleaning Business, later purchasing his first feed store. In 1949, they moved to Menomonie and purchased the feed store in Knapp. Until retiring in 1979, Matt operated Goodman's Feed Store in Knapp for 30 years, working side by side with his brother Hank. In 1971, Matt and his wife moved to a five acre farm south of Knapp and raised beef cattle. Spending time with family and friends was an import part of Matt and Edna's life. They enjoyed traveling to Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Africa, Ireland and Mexico with Cargill Group Tours. Matt enjoyed deer hunting in Park Falls for 40 years, fishing local lakes and family fishing trips to Canada. He enjoyed hunting locally and recently began Turkey hunting. His interests also included gardening and feeding the birds. Matt was a hardworking man who enjoyed the outdoors and took great pride in Knapp community projects. Matt is survived by: His wife, Edna of Knapp Daughters, Linda (Jay) Wagner of Menomonie Judy (Peter) Binder of Hayward Nancy (Al) Finder of Menomonie Grandchildren, Donna (Pat) McConnell of Hayward, Arias Lora McBeth of Waseca, MN, Peter (Nancy) Hillman of Spring Hill, TN A brother, Charles "Hank" (Grace) Goodman of Menomonie And other relatives and friends He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Grace Goodman. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, with Rev. LeRoy Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in the Town of Stanton, Dunn Co., WI. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
