Marietta Terrill Obituary (1920 - 2008)

MARIETTA TERRILL Marietta Terrill, age 87, of Menomonie, WI passed away Sunday, January 20, 2008 at Red Cedar Medical Center in Menomonie. The former Marietta Phipps was born June 25, 1920 in Abbotsford, WI to Alfred and Ida (Henkel) Phipps. She married William Lester Terrill of Pittsburgh, New Hampshire on Oct. 3, 1940. Marietta and Bill had five children. Joanne Terrill of Menomonie William L. (Marilyn) Terrill Jr. of Cary, NC Betty (David) Verdon of Menomonie Tom (Barb) Terrill of Spooner Terry (Ron) Schaefer of Menomonie Her grandchildren are, Missy (Rod) Kahl of Menomonie, William L. (Abby) Terrill III of Chicago, IL, Chad (Jess) Terrill of Rice Lake, Janel (Eric) Fanetti of Hudson, Shannon (Beaver) Hall of Elmwood, Ky (Carrie) Terrill of Chippewa Falls, Brielle (Don) Nightingale of Andover, MN, Ross (Michelle) Schaefer of Ivanhoe, MN, Brady (Lorie) Terrill of Stevens Point, Kelly (Zeke) Mader of Gillette, WY, Amanda and David Terrill of Cary, NC. Her great-grandchildren are, Chris, Cody and Shawna Kahl of Menomonie, Cole and Clayton Fanetti of Hudson, Brett and Shelby Hall of Elmwood, Hailee and Drew Nightingale of Andover, MN, Abby and Emma Schaefer of Ivanhoe, MN, Christian, Joy and Justice Terrill of Stevens Point, and Marcus and Maria Mader of Gillette, WY She is also survived by other relatives and friends. Marietta especially loved fishing on the Chippewa Flowage with family. She also was proud of being the only girl cheerleader on the Superior state cheerleading squad. She was always her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's cheerleader. We said she looked through rose-colored glasses and gave unconditional love. What a good listener. Marietta met Bill Terrill in Boston, both working for the sportsman's show. Marietta became a world-champion log roller. She performed with log rollers, Tom Fleming and Wilbur Marx of Eau Claire, WI. Marietta was very involved in her community. She received Coach La Buda's number one fan jacket for football, was president and held other offices for the Menomonie Women's Club, a very active member of the Menomonie United Methodist Church, was on the county board, a Girl Scout leader, on the library board, involved with the Office on Aging and various other activities. She was a local fan of the community sports. She loved Menomonie Football. I'm sure people will remember the little lady, with the little farm, with the little red car. The family would like to express their thanks to Red Cedar Medical Center, Dr. Brown and all who contributed to the wonderful support she received. Remembrances to any Menomonie charities would be appropriate, especially the library, Mabel Tainter, Rassbach Museum and especially the old school house at the Rassbach Museum. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years in 1991 and by her daughter Terry, 3 years ago, her parents and 2 sisters, Kay MacCourt and Connie East. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Menomonie with Rev. James Harrington and Rev. Marilynn Rushton officiating. A luncheon will follow. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday and at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
