Lurene E. Smith Obituary (1925 - 2007)

LURENE E. SMITH Lurene E. Smith, age 81, of Menomonie, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at the Red Cedar Medical Center in Menomonie. The former Lurene Effie Armstrong was born Dec. 19, 1925 in Red Granite, WI to Durward and Ethel (Phelps) Armstrong. She was raised mostly in the Ridgeland, WI area and attended Dority Creek and Prairie Farm Schools. Lurene worked at the Aluminum Plant in Menomonie and then at the Flame where she met her future husband, Miles Smith. They were married October 28, 1944 at the Methodist Church in Menomonie. After their marriage, they lived in New York and Washington before returning to Menomonie. Lurene worked at Swiss Miss in Menomonie for 34 years. Lurene was a member of the United Methodist Church in Menomonie. She enjoyed reading and taking pictures. She was very devoted to her family because that was the most important thing in her life. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Lurene is survived by: Her daughter, Joaquin Smith of Menomonie Her son, John (Judy) Smith of Oshkosh Five grandchildren, Laurie (Russell) Schlosser, Angela (Mark) Fechter, Ryan Beguhn, Amy Smith and Kevin Smith Five great grandchildren, Joshua, Corey and Briana Schlosser and Dominick and Jocelyn Fechter Five sisters and two brothers, Nellie Trandum of Rice Lake Lucy Johnson of Rice Lake Ruth Thompson of Barron Jim (Kathy) Armstrong of Amery Shirley Armstrong of Barron Joan (Andrew) Dado of Lake City, MI Paul Armstrong of Spooner A sister-in-law Juanita (Charles) Bates of Elmwood Nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Kenneth Armstrong. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, September 17, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in Menomonie. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Wayside Cemetery in Barron.
