Larry R. Ziehl Obituary (1948 - 2008)

LARRY R. ZIEHL Larry R. Ziehl, age 61, of Downsville, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008 in Elmwood. He was born on January 7, 1947 in Eau Claire, WI. Larry was raised in the Menomonie area on the family farm. This is where he spent most of his years and where he raised his family. During his working years he farmed the land that he loved and also did construction work. He was a man that not only loved the land but also loved his country. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. As well as being an active member of the community, Larry was the wrestling coach at Downsville School for twenty years. It was something that he did with joy because of his love of the sport and children. To his friends Larry was known as a man who would do anything for anybody, he was well respected and loved. We knew his as Dad, the man that raised and loved us. We miss you already. "If a man has any greatness in him, it comes to light, not in one flamboyant hour, but in the ledger of his daily work, as my father and great friend." Larry is survived by: His children, Joe Ziehl of Menomonie Courtney Schallenberger of Menomonie Angie (Chuck) Woods of Eau Claire Shawn "Mike" Ziehl of Menomonie Grandchildren, Taya Jean Johnson, Kennedy and Bailey Kitchner and Mason Voeltz He is also survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond "Frank" and Cloteal Ziehl. There was a time of remembrance at Olson Funeral Home, in Menomonie, WI on Thursday, May 29, 2008. Burial of the ashes was on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Forest Center Cemetery in the Town of Spring Brook, Dunn Co., WI, with military honors by Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard.
