Harry Zitelman, Jr. Obituary (1928 - 2013)

Harry William Zitelman, age 85, of Menomonie, WI passed away peacefully Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, WI with his family by his side. He was born July 27, 1928 in Austin, MN to Harry William and Ruth (King) Zitelman, Sr. Harry grew up in Austin, Waltham and Hayfield, MN, graduating in 1946 from Hayfield High School. He worked for the railroad in Hayfield and the lumberyard until 1950, when he entered the U.S. Air Force. He served in Spokane, WA, Rapid City, SD, and Ramey Air Force base in Puerto Rico, where he was crew chief on B36 bombers. On August 9, 1958, Harry married Janet Ann Kirkland at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Menomonie. Harry and Janet celebrated their 55th anniversary this year. Harry managed Culligan until 1978, owned Stove Pipe from 1978 to 1983 and owned Menomin Sport from 1983 to 1988. In 1989 Harry began selling Schaefer Oil Products as well as fluorescent lighting, and continued to work until his death. Harry joined the Masonic Lodge in 1950 in Hayfield, MN and was a faithful member throughout his life. He was an avid train enthusiast, volunteering his time on the 2719 train in Eau Claire. Harry loved spending time with grandchildren and he and Janet attended many baseball and football games over the years. Harry is survived by his loving wife and best friend Janet; his children, Susan (Mark) Kunz of Galesville, WI, Brian (Pamela) Zitelman of La Crosse, WI, Bruce (Mindy) Zitelman of Machesney Park, IL; his grandchildren, Dylan Kunz and U.S. Army P.F.C. Colin Kunz, and Meghan and Aaron Zitelman. Thank you Dad for the memories we will always cherish, until we meet again, you will be forever loved and missed. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at United Methodist Church in Menomonie, with Pastor Don Gribble officiating, followed by a Masonic Service by Menomonie Lodge 164 F. & A.M. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the Memorial Service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie. The family suggests memorials to United Methodist Church of Menomonie.
