Darrell Cotts Obituary (1922 - 2006)

DARRELL A. COTTS Darrell A. Cotts, age 83, of Menomonie, WI died Saturday, May 06, 2006 at home, after a long struggle with Parkinson's and Cancer. Darrell was born Aug. 10, 1922 in the Town of Weston, Dunn Co., WI to John and Maude (Kistner) Cotts. He was raised on the home farm and attended elementary school at Twin Hill. He later graduated from the Dunn County School of Agriculture. On Sept. 24, 1947, Darrell married Irene Skillings at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie. He farmed the family farm and raised registered Angus cattle and Quarter horses. His crowning glory was winning Reserve Champion with his horse, Just Aledo Breeze, at the AQHA World Show in Oklahoma City in 1978. After retiring from farming, Darrell worked for Menomonie City Housing and Cutler Farms. He loved woodworking and made several cherished pieces for friends and family members. Darrell served on the Weston Town Board, New Hope Lutheran Church Council and the Dunn County Drainage Board. He loved the outdoors, especially deer hunting and pheasant hunting. He also enjoyed watching his grandsons grow up and play sports. More recently, he looked forward to his evening backrubs from his daughter and talking horses with her, since she carries on her dad's love of horses. Darrell is survived by: His loving wife of 59 years, Irene Cotts of Menomonie A daughter, Pamela (Jim) Biesterveld of Menomonie Two grandsons, John Biesterveld of Valley View, TX Matthew (Wendy) Biesterveld of Alma, WI A sister, Susie (Eugene) Weber of Menomonie Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Wanda Mortel, Donald (Dorothy) Skillings, Lorraine Cotts, Dale (Kathie) Skillings, Marlys (Robert) Jensen and Daniel (Marg) Skillings all of Menomonie except Lorraine from Spooner 9 nieces, 11 nephews, many great nieces and great nephews Special friends, Ron and Marcia Cutler and Brenda Steinberger And other relatives and friends He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Stanley Cotts; a brother-in-law, Brownie Mortel; and a nephew, Steven Mortel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Downsville, with Pastor Steven Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in the Town of Dunn. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
