Darrell D. Kistner Obituary (1925 - 2006)

DARRELL D. KISTNER Darrell D. Kistner, age 81, of Menomonie, WI died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at the Red Cedar Medical Center in Menomonie, Darrell Dennis Kistner was born September 16, 1925 to Charley and Rosella (Shafer) Kistner in the town of Weston, Dunn Co., WI. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Hayward. When Darrell was 13, they moved to Downsville by horse and wagon. The trip took five days. At age 17, Darrell joined the U. S. Army. He went through Basic Training and then to Jump Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was in the 82nd Air Bourne Division and stationed in Tyler, Texas, Camp Fanny and in Africa. He fought in WWII from 1942-1946. Darrell parachuted into Normandy, France and later Holland, where he was wounded. He was honored for his service and awarded the Purple Heart. After his service, Darrell worked as a Union Operating Engineer for Local 139. He has been a member of that union for over 55 years. On August 14, 1984 Darrell married Louanne Scott in Menomonie. Darrell loved to ice fish and deer hunt. He even enjoyed making some of his own fishing baits. He loved to camp with family at Moon Lake and take the grandchildren fishing. He taught the grandchildren how to clean their fish. In later years, playing cards with his family and grandchildren became his sport. Darrell is survived by: His step-children Sharry (Jerry) Bolle of Menomonie Bill Wang of Menomonie Robert (Kaylene) Wolfe of Menomonie Terri (John) Peterson of Boyceville Sheila (Paul) Smith of Eau Claire Tim (Lisa) Wolfe of Menomonie Step-daughter-in-law Rayola Wang of Menomonie Numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren Two brothers and one sister Everett (Theresa) Kistner of Ridgeland John (Agnes) Kistner of Yucapa, CA Viola (Gordon) Hoyt of Durand Two sisters-in-law Thelma Kistner of Downsville Betty Kistner of Bloomer Many nieces and nephews And other relatives and friends He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Chester and Wesley Kistner; two sisters, Maude Kistner and Beryl Stewart; a step-son, Wayne Wang; step-grandsons, David and Randy Wang. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 at Christ Lutheran Church in Menomonie, with Rev. Geoff Scott officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Halverson Cemetery in Menomonie at 3:30 PM Monday, December 11th. Military honors will be performed by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard. Family and friends are welcome at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie is handling the arrangements.
