Clayton M. Scott Obituary (1924 - 2006)

CLAYTON M. SCOTT Clayton Merrill Scott, "Scotty", age 82, formerly of Hopkins, MN died Monday, April 17, 2006 at the Area Nursing Home in Colfax from complications of Parkinson's disease. Scotty was born April 7, 1924 in Minneapolis, MN to William and Elma (Ferguson) Scott. He graduated from Minneapolis West High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Scotty received a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota and worked as an engineer for General Electric. On April 29, 1950 he married Charlotte Sideris at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Minneapolis. They built a home and lived in the Morningside area of Edina for 33 years. In addition to his engineering work, Scotty also taught math at Dunwoody and Gale Institute. He received a J.D. degree from the William Mitchell College of Law in 1959 and practiced patent and contract law as a member of the legal staff of Federal Cartridge Corp. from 1967 to his retirement in 1989. Many of his later years were spent at his retirement home off Upper Tainter Lake in Dunn County where he loved the wildlife and his daily walks around the lake. Scotty was a member and lay leader of St. Paul's Episcopal, Minneapolis, serving in virtually all offices of lay leadership as well as teaching Sunday school. He was also an active part of Grace Episcopal Church in Menomonie. Scotty's family extends special thanks to the staff of the Area Nursing Home of Colfax for their compassionate care. Scotty is survived by: His wife of 56 years, Charlotte of Colfax A son, Geoffrey (Kathleen) Scott of Wheeler A daughter, Elizabeth Scott of Hopkins, MN Four grandchildren, Emily (Joel) Hansen of Menomonie, Julia (Jon) Strand of Eau Claire, William Scott of Menomonie, and Katherine Scott of Wheeler A brother, Roger (Pat) Scott of Bremerton, WA And he is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elma; and a brother, Dean Scott of Minneapolis. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at Grace Episcopal Church, 1002 6th St., Menomonie, WI with Father Dale Klitzke officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran/Halvorson Cemetery in Menomonie.
