Charles N. Odom Obituary (1943 - 2008)

CHARLES N. ODOM Charles N. Odom, age 64, of Colfax, WI went to be with the Lord, on September 27, 2008.. Charles Newton Odom was born in Mobile, Alabama on November 23, 1943 the third son of George and Mavis Odom. He grew up in rural Mississippi where he was a Boy Scout and successful paperboy, winning the first Young Columbus contest at the age of 14, which awarded him a trip to Spain and Portugal, with young boys from every state in the union. In 1961, he graduated from Forest Hill High School in Forest Hill, Mississippi. He joined the U.S. Air Force in June 1962 and served 4 years as a Morse code operator stationed in Turkey for most of his enlistment. He was a former member of the Van Winkle Methodist Church in Jackson, MS. Charles was married and had two children, Charles P. Odom and Melissa J. Odom. He lived in Mississippi where he was a pilot and flight instructor, later moving back to Texas where he sold mobile homes, ran a drapery business and then became a building contractor. In 1993, he moved to Wimberley, Texas where he bought a small shopping center and continued his building career. In 1998, Charles married Nancy Stalson and they began making yearly trips to Wisconsin. In 2001 he moved to Colfax, Wisconsin where he bought a small farm, ran an antique business and later a small caf�. He became ill in the spring of 2008 and spent his final days at home surrounded by family and friends. He was a man who loved life and enjoyed the simple things it has to offer. He was cherished by his wife and family and loved by his friends. Charlie is survived by: His wife, Nancy Odom Two children, Charles P. (Else) Odom of Katy, TX Melissa J. Odom of Kyle, TX Two brothers, George (Iris) Odom of Richmond, VA James (Joyce) Odom of Scottsboro, AL A sister, Cheryl (Jimmy) Whitehead of Jackson, MS His mother-in-law, Donna Stalson of Colfax, WI Several nieces and nephews And other relatives and friends He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mavis Odom. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, October 3, 2008 at Colfax United Methodist Church in Colfax, WI with Reverend Jim Thunstrom officiating. Burial will be in the Lower Running Valley Cemetery in the Town of Colfax, Dunn Co., WI. A visitation will be held from noon until the time of the service at the church on Friday.
