Albert Vriesacker Obituary (1917 - 2006)

ALBERT G. "AL" VRIESACKER Albert G. "Al" Vriesacker, age 88, of Menomonie, WI died Wednesday April 19, 2006 at his home. He was born July 10, 1917 in Superior, WI to Belgium born immigrants, Charles and Mathilda (Heyman) Vriesacker. Albert graduated from Superior East High School, served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II and honorably discharged in 1946. Al opened a body shop in North Menomonie and soon after opened South Side Body Shop and Motors. He married Betty Fortney on June 6, 1964 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Menomonie. In 1967, he joined American Family Insurance as an auto appraiser. A few years later, he formed Badger Auto Damage Appraisers retiring in 1999. Al was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Menomonie. He also had a love of horses and he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing. Al is survived by: His wife, Betty of Menomonie His children, James (Jane) Vriesacker of Reedsburg Janin (George) Cameron of Naches, WA Jo (Ron) Morton of Sumter, SC Jon Vriesacker of St. Paul, MN Stepchildren, Phillip (Kim) Fortney of Roseville, MN Marcia (George) Attmore of Raleigh, NC Robert Fortney of Milwaukee A sister, Mary Tyson of Superior He is also survived by seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mathilda Vriesacker; his first wife, Jane Wildner Vriesacker and a brother Thomas Vriesacker. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, April 24, 2006 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Menomonie, with Rev. Mark Halaas officiating. Family and friends are welcome at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday and at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday. Burial will be in Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 with military honors.
