Aarthur Shad, Sr. Obituary (1924 - 2006)

ARTHUR J. SHAD SR. Arthur J. Shad Sr., age 81, of Menomonie, WI died Friday, May 12, 2006 at Luther Midelfort Hospital in Eau Claire. He was born Sept. 16, 1924 in Corning, Iowa to Isaac and Sarah (Sickles) Shad. At the age of ten, Art left home to work on other farms in the area. When he was 19, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp 2nd Div. 1003rd Platoon, served in the Pacific theater during W.W.II, and was part of the occupation force in Japan. After his discharge from military service in 1946, he returned to Corning to work on the railroad. Art married Betty Ann Threlkeld in 1946 in Chicago, IL. They moved to Norfolk, VA where Art started Art Shad Home Improvement. They moved to Missouri in 1961 and to Minnesota in 1966 while Art continued his home improvement business and also enjoyed farming. In 1973 Art moved to Wisconsin and to the Dunn County area in 1976 where he started Art Shad Seamless Gutters. He is very proud of his 45 years in the rain gutter business and that his company still lives on. After his divorce Art later married Eileen Apel in 1981 in Iowa and they resided in Menomonie. Art loved animals and in his golden years has enjoyed raising Pomeranians and his horses and also enjoyed gardening and flowers. He was a former member of the V.F.W Post 1039 in Menomonie. But most importantly Art loved visiting with friends and telling stories. Art is survived by: Three daughters and two sons, Mary Ann (Wayne) Gee of Arkansas John Lee Shad of North St. Paul, MN Marsha Kay Shad of Webb City, MO Marjorie Fay (Steve) Benson of North Branch, MN Art (Luz) Shad Jr. of Menomonie 14 grandchildren, George and Tammy Ehrlichman, Tracy, Trevor and Carlee Shad, Francisco and Christopher Shad, Luther Shad, Steven Carl Benson, Christine Bush, Rebecca Dubois, David Benson, Nathan Shad and Carlos Ortiz. 17 great-grandchildren A brother, Harold Dean Shad of Cass Lake, MN Nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Sarah Shad; two brothers, Paul and Willard Shad; a sister, Bonnie Shad; his son, James Edward Shad; his wife, Eileen Shad; and a grandson Gregory Ehrlichman. A Celebration of Art's Life will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie with military honors by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard. Following the service all friends and family are welcome for a luncheon at the home of Art Shad Jr. E4682 430th Ave., Menomonie.
